Biodiversity Net Gain

About BNG

Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is a system that ensures developers across England offset biodiversity losses by investing in conservation projects (called habitat banks). This creates habitats that support a greater level of biodiversity than is lost to development.

At RTA Restoration, we see BNG as a powerful tool to drive large-scale, long-term ecological restoration to help reverse the decline of UK wildlife. As an off-site provider of BNG units, we sell these units directly from our habitat restoration projects, where we own and manage the land.

An independent, accredited ecologist conducts habitat and condition surveys, while we undertake in-house ecological surveys for botany, birds, reptiles, and mammals. We analyse the data and adapt our management to ensure ongoing restoration success.

All our units are calculated using the official statutory BNG metric tool. Our units and management plans are then verified and locked in using legally binding s.106 agreements.

Be a part of the Journey

We also offer biodiversity units to individuals and businesses looking to make a real, positive impact for nature recovery. Adopting the BNG framework, all our units are standardised, legally binding, and ecologically monitored.

When you invest in biodiversity units with RTA Restoration we will provide a written progress report of the habitat bank, after each survey season.

We will also invite you and your organisation on tours and work party days, to learn about conservation and bring you on your journey of nature recovery.

So, whether you are a developer needing to offset, a business looking to achieve ESG or CSR goals, or an individual changemaker, please contact The Team to enquire about our units available and we will be happy to help.
